Autumn News from the Sweet Pea Foundation Weathering the Tough Economy We have been overwhelmed by the support the Foundation has received over the years. During these tough economic times, please know that we remain committed to being extremely careful of your contributions. 100% of the donations we receive will continue to go towards the goals established by the Foundation. As always, expenses will be paid by the Letherman and Power families. Although we use this newsletter in our fundraising, please know that this publication is also used to keep you informed about the Foundation. 6th Annual Kickoff Classic a Success The sixth annual Kickoff Classic was held at Juday Creek on September 4th. Congratulations to this year’s winners: Joe Letherman, Nick Matuch, Jason Hemmerling and Mike Reese. A special thanks to our major sponsors: Lawyers Title, Regency Search Group, & Wells Fargo Advisors. Additional sponsors are listed on the home page. If you like to plan ahead, the 7th annual Kickoff Classic golf outing will be September 10, 2010 at Juday Creek. Special Delivery in Wildcat Country! This past April, the Sweet Pea Foundation was the recipient of a generous donation from Kuhlman Electric and ABB Inc. of Lexington, Kentucky. During a visit to the University of Kentucky this past July, the Foundation made a special delivery to Kentucky’s Children’s Hospital. We contacted their Child Life Specialists and asked them to provide us with items that were needed in the hospital. In addition to individual toys, the Foundation donated DVDs, Wii games and controllers, board games, and several other big ticket items. Many of these toys are being used in the common playrooms at the hospital and will provide children with a distraction from hospital life for years to come. Printing Assistance Thanks to a directed gift by Tri Kappa Alpha Rho, Elkhart Chapter, the Foundation was able to upgrade the printer used to produce this newsletter and other marketing items. Because of its efficiency, the printer saves us a lot of time and money. We sincerely appreciate their generosity and support of the Sweet Pea Foundation. The Power of Books The Sweet Pea Foundation is adding children’s books as a specific item that we will be donating. The benefits of reading to a child are well documented. Providing books to the hospitals as well as to individual patients will help the healing process while assisting with the cognitive development of the children. We are excited about this new facet of our giving. To date we have already donated over 50 books and plan to provide many more in the coming years. Holiday Gifts that Give Looking for a unique holiday gift for a neighbor or coworker? Don’t know what to get the person on your list that has everything? Consider a gift to the Sweet Pea Foundation in their name this holiday season. Send an email to sweetpeafoundation@comcast.net for more information. The Foundation will mail a card to the recipient acknowledging a gift has been made in their honor. Grace-E-Grams If you have a family member or know of a child that is going to be hospitalized for an extended period of time, please let the Foundation know. We will send a small package of toys and books to the patient. Send an email to sweetpeafoundation@comcast.net. Please provide the hospital’s address, patient’s name, gender, age and room number and the anticipated length of stay. Blarney Bash Mark your calendar for another fun-filled event this St. Patrick’s Day. The 7th annual Blarney Bash is going to be held on Tuesday, March 17th at the Knights of Columbus in Elkhart. Please join us for traditional Irish cuisine, green beer and Irish music. This is a family friendly event that is fun for all ages. If you are interested in sponsoring the event, contact Pete at 574-296-1310 or email blarneybash@comcast.net. Toy Count To date, the Sweet Pea Foundation has purchased and delivered over 3,646 toys to children’s hospitals. We continue to work toward our goal of providing 5,000 toys by the end of 2010. The funds received from the Autumn 2009 Campaign will be broken down as follows: · 50% for the “Seeds of Grace” fund · 25% for toys · 25% for the Ronald McDonald House reserve fund |
