Autumn News from the Sweet Pea Foundation! Sweet Rewards for the Ronald McDonald House of Indiana On October 27, 2007 we delivered our first contribution to the Ronald McDonald House of Indiana. We were greeted by Mike Perigo, the Director of Development, and Beth Johnson, the Executive Director. They graciously presented us with two plaques: the first was placed on room 43 and reads “This room is hosted by The Sweet Pea Foundation.” The second was given to the Foundation as a keepsake and reads “The Ronald McDonald House thanks The Sweet Pea Foundation for supporting a guest room.” This plaque also includes an area at the bottom where a heart is placed denoting each year that a donation is received by the House. After receiving the plaques, we presented a check in the amount of $3,500 to Beth Johnson and conveyed that this will be the first of many years of support. After the check presentation, Mr. Perigo gave our family a tour of the facility on Michigan Street as well as the new House that was recently constructed within the walls of Riley Hospital. During the tour, Suzanne and I were reminded of the wonderful service this organization provides. Our memories of four years ago were a vivid reminder of the stress and uncertainty that accompany a stay at Riley. Having a place where you can go to get away from some of that stress is truly invaluable. Ronald McDonald Charities is a fantastic organization that provides an incredible service. We look forward to continuing to support them in the coming years. Thank you to everyone who has supported the Foundation. Without your contributions, we would not have been able to achieve this amazing goal. 4th Annual Kickoff Classic a Success The fourth annual Kickoff Classic was held at Juday Creek on August 31st. Congratulations to this year’s winners: Dean Leazenby, Steve Brown, Pat Koegan and Duane Klein. A special thanks to our sponsors: LandAmerica Lawyers Title, Niblock Excavating, Wachovia and Wiedenbach-Brown. If you like to plan ahead, the fifth annual Kickoff Classic golf outing will be September 12, 2008 at Juday Creek Golf Course. If you are interested in sponsoring the event or would like to participate, please contact Pete at 574-296-1310. Blarney Bash Mark your calendar! The fifth annual Blarney Bash is going to be held on March 17th at the Knights of Columbus in Elkhart. Please join us for traditional Irish cuisine, green beer and Irish music. If you are interested in sponsoring the event, contact Pete at 574-296-1310 or email blarneybash@comcast.net. Grace-E-Grams If you have a family member or know of a child that is going to be hospitalized for an extended period of time, please let the Foundation know. We will send a small package of toys and books to the patient. Send an email to sweetpeafoundation@comcast.net. Please provide the hospital’s address, patient’s name, gender, age and room number and the anticipated length of stay. Million Tab Club Update The current count of pop can tabs is 227 gallons. Please contact us if you have any pop tabs that you would like to donate. The tabs are being collected on behalf of Ronald McDonald House Charities. Holiday Gift Giving Can’t find the perfect holiday gift for a neighbor or coworker? Over the past few years, several individuals and companies have asked the Foundation to send out cards to customers and friends as a gift of appreciation during the holiday season. Consider a gift to the Sweet Pea Foundation this season by simply providing us with the names and addresses of those you would like us to acknowledge. It has been an exciting and fulfilling four years. We are extremely humbled by the support the Foundation has received and hope we can continue to keep your confidence for years to come. With gratitude, Pete, Suzanne, Andrew, Cecilia, & Angel Grace Letherman |
